This is the shelf for holding something. Not for wellness, not for sleep — for standing in a kitchen at a party with a drink in your hand that you actually want to be drinking.

It’s the biggest section in the store, because it turns out this is what most people are looking for. Something with enough going on that you don’t feel like you’re being punished, in a can or bottle that doesn’t announce itself as the sober option.

What’s actually in these

• Zero-proof spirits — gin, tequila, whiskey and agave alternatives, built to be poured over ice and mixed. Some are genuinely excellent; ask us which.
• NA beer and wine — the category has changed enormously in five years. If you wrote it off in 2018, it’s worth another try.
• Canned mocktails and aperitifs — the grab-one-from-the-fridge option, no mixing.
• Low-dose hemp THC seltzers — 2 to 5mg. The closest analogue to a light beer, and the fastest-growing thing we sell.
• Kava and kanna social tonics — both traditionally shared, both a little more interesting than a soda.

If this is your first one

Buy three singles, not one four-pack. Taste is wildly personal in this category and the only way to find yours is to try a few. Our staff will happily pick three for you.

If you’re going somewhere and want to bring a bottle, the zero-proof spirits and NA wines read best on a table. If you want something to hold all night, cans.

With any hemp THC product, stay at the low end in a social setting — 2–5mg per can, one at a time.
