Ingredients

Kava kava root extract 250 mg (std to 30% kavalactones), Mucuna pruriens extract 150 mg (15% L-dopa), Green tea leaf extract (80 mg caffeine). OTHER INGREDIENTS: Carbonated filtered water, erythritol, natural flavors, citric acid, stevia.

What kava actually is

Kava is the root of Piper methysticum, a pepper plant from the South Pacific, where it has been prepared and shared socially for centuries. The compounds that matter are called kavalactones and that is the number worth comparing between products.

Watch the labels: some brands publish milligrams of root extract and some publish milligrams of kavalactones. They are very different numbers. Where we know which is which, we say so.

How it hits, and when

Usually 15 to 30 minutes, running 1 to 2 hours. People describe it as loose and social with a clear head rather than a buzz.

The tongue tingle is normal. A slight numbing feeling in your mouth is the kavalactones doing what they do, not a sign that something is wrong.
